it's saddening to note the pinoys still watch a TV show because of an actor and not because of it's story, plot, pace, script, cinematography, or direction.

this is also reflected on how well done movies rate at the tills. those which pinoys snub, usually are raved for abroad. those that earn more are usually the sloppy movies with sing-and-dance sequences that are out of context, or are with actors only the pinoy masa can love.

schindler's list, the piano, and the last temptation of christ are just three examples of movies that were either banned or candidates for cutting by those who think know better. but alas! these movies turned out to be good movies actually. has anyone seen the rainman and said it would win an award prior to the oscars? what about shakespear in love? has anyone thought it would get the oscar's best picture award?

maybe it's the current education system that needs to be blamed. our english efficiency is going downhill. you can see how students converse in english these days. it is almost all broken, intermixed with tagalog (or filipino if you still want to call it). "wait lang ha!" "grabe, it's so kadiri talaga!" "let's go to the canteen na. i'm gutom na kasi eh." and of course, let's not forget the ever famous line of one narcisstic, self-centered, egoistic brat: "you're super rich na talaga!" this adds insult to an already injured intellectual state of filipino youth.

english efficiency is not our only problem. our mathematical and scientific minds are going down too. filipino-made textbooks could very well prove this. it's just so sad and we are in a very sorry state.

not a few days ago, finnish students were ranked as number one in the world [source]. i wonder if we have joined the said exam, or if we did, where we would be.

while i would be happy if mulawin or any show would have high ratings (as i should be unbiased to both networks ha!) i would be happier if a tv show could capture the minded group of the country. this would then reflect how a tv show is given importance. but on the other hand, the masa still has the number, and we are all affected by the ratings game; and the healthy doesn't need a doctor.
