the price of restoration: a reversal of fortunes

the tree's restorative powers were to many a sign of hope and good things to come. aviona has risen from the pains of unrequited love and the darkness of her jealousies, to the optimistism of new and better days ahead of her. habagat, having faced the inner demons that came from his betrayal, now gained the love of his son. the ravena prisoners and soldiers broke free from their enforced bonds and were reunited with their loved ones. and bagwis looks forward to claiming, once and for all, the love of his life.

but for some, the consequences were unsought for. the other characters of mulawin stand thus:

the former ravena queen was regal in her stance, bold in her decisions. now bereft of her power, she appears shrunken, lost. a mother with a wasted past behind her, her sorrow all the more deepened by the rejection from her daughter, we see a weeping veronica.

he had everything then, but it was his qualities that made him well-loved by all - his nobility in his actions, his strength and loyalty to his friends. and yet the rich son of the haciendero never aspired to become what he is now, a symbol of a despised race. undeserving of such a punishment, we see a crestfallen gabriel.

as the acknowledged Sugo, he was looked upon with pride and joy, an inspiring hero that defied the trials that faced him, even the temptations of hell, to gain a hardly-fought love and victory. but in a small moment of weakness, he falls, and the world along with it, and the risk of destruction again looms ahead. accused and guilt-ridden for a duty forgotten, we see a remorseful aguiluz.

struggling with the turmoil that rages within their souls, they all stand anguished in their pain and misery, alone as they wait for their fates.
