[Mulawin] 12/9/2004 07:44:14 AM

Okay, as you might have guessed: Perico is Spanish for parakeet (a parrot). So I think we can spell it either way.

I don't think the Mulawin team is insane enough to haev killed Aviona just like that. I'll believe it when the body is found, but what would they do that for since the show isn't going to end anytime soon (proof of that is Lourdes' 2-seegment dream)?

The show's creators are doing this for the money and ratings. They should know that fans can be broadly divided into 2 groups. I learned this from watching sports like boxing and tennis. I'd call them (for want of a better term) the "inner" and the "outer" circle of fans. The inner group of fans are the hard-core fans of, say, boxing itself. They go and see the matches very often and love the sport for its own sake. The outer circle of fans are those who watch only when there's a special event, or when they're favorite acthlete is going to see action. For example, many women don't like boxing, but when it was Oscar de la Hoya in the ring, they came in droves. :) When their favorite is gone, then they abandon the sport.

What producers of both sports and showbiz programs know (and ought to know) is that the outer circle of fans is what adds to the size of the fan base. I think it is generaly larger than the "hard core" group in the center. The core group will stay loyal to the show/sport no matter what happens. Example: Marina. Many of its fans stuck with it to the very end even when the story got sloppy and many former fans had switched to Mulawin. The ones who left belonged to the outer circle. What producers and staff should be careful about is the outer circle. That's where a lot of their money and attention comes from, and what makes the show "mainstream" (?). If you take someone out like Aviona who is has a huge fan base, you take away a large bulk of fans devoted to the show.

So considering that, it doesn't really make sense to kill off Aviona, and that's why I don't believe it. Sure, Mulagat and others were killed, but they never had such a strong following as she does.

Remember Anna Kournikova? She always played to jam-packed stadiums wherever she went. I'm not comparing Bianca King with her since I found Anna boring (what WAS all the fuss about?) and uninteresting. But tennis makes a lot of money through her and other endorsable personalities like Andre Agassi. They attract even those who aren't really fans of the sport. Same with Bianca King. Because of her, even people who aren't really fans of fantasy go and watch the show.

Well, sorry for the long post. Just my own personal view, so no offense to anybody. :)
